What is NOT included in the tour package fee?

The package fees for our Expeditions do not include:

- Shipment of your car. We go to extraordinary lengths to allow you to ride YOUR OWN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CAR, not an unknown rental. Because we pre-run every tour, we know the requirements for getting large-displacement and foreign-registered vehicles across the borders along our routes. Once your car is prepared for the journey, you will ship it to our freight-forwarding partner in Santos, Brazil. We will then personally receive the vehicle and drive it to a safe place in Santos while waiting for your arrival at the nearest airport.

- Visa application fees. Although you must personally complete the forms, our travel partners will process and secure all visa applications for most of our participants. The actual fees for visa processing must be paid by you separately. Note: Because of new requirements put into effect, any visas must be applied for in the country of your residence. Therefore, we can only process visa applications for residents of Brazil. However, we will provide application letters, letters of introduction and other support documents as required by participants joining us from countries other than Brazil.

- Airfare and ground transportation. We do not include airfare or ground transportation to/from the arrival or departure airport/cities for our tours. Generally, ground transportation to and from the arrival/departure hotels is also not included. In some instances, our local support team will meet and arrange transportation from the arrival airport to the hotel. Detailed instructions will be provided in our pre-departure documentation package.

- Lunches and dinners. Our goal is to provide the best itinerary as possible. Every participant should bring food to be consumed during the day’s ride or during the short stops for refueling. In some cases, if there is a group activity planned en route, lunches will be included. Normally we organize a dinner in a local restaurant and divide the bill among all the participants.

- Insurance. Because many of the participants are regular travelers, they already have their own medical, trip interruption and cancellation insurance. We do require that you have medical, medical evacuation, and shipping insurance. We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. Where available, we will work with our partners to offer third-party liability or comprehensive insurance. Where such insurance is mandatory, riders will pay on their own at the border post. The same apply to the vehicles.

- Medical assistance and/or medicines. These must be supplied by you or your own personal health insurance. The support team will assist with transportation and communication with local doctors, hospitals or drug stores if necessary.

- Fuel, beverages and personal expenses. You will pay for fuel consumed by your car, and beverages consumed by you (coffee, tea and soft drinks may be included with some meals, alcoholic beverages are not). You will also pay for eventual maintenance of the car (oil and filters change, for example) made during an Expedition.

- Any and all personal expenses. They all come out of your own pocket.

- Some group activities. At times, we may arrange an en route or "day" activity. We are able to pre-pay for some of these, but others you will pay for on your own. Any of these activities, pre-paid or not, is optional.

- Tips for wait staff, service staff, drivers and local guides. You are a privileged visitor to the countries we visit. Many of the people who work to make your travel possible are paid wages that are substantially lower than what they deserve. If you have received exceptional service, we ask that you acknowledge this with a handshake, a smile, and monetary "thank you". We will offer guidelines on what is acceptable.

- Because most participants prefer to self-ride on their own after the tour, or temporarily store their car in South America for a return tour, we do not include return shipping on our Expeditions. We will, of course, assist with any shipping arrangements that you may require. Please contact us in regard to shipping if you wish to join a tour and live outside Brazil. The end of each expedition, and its location, is planned in such a way that the return trip can proceed in a personalized way or in groups.
